MONICA CASTIGLIONI
Rooted in the center of Milan, the fashion capital of the world, and soon expanded in New York and Japan. The collection designed by Monica Castiglioni took shape and inspiration from the natural forms of nature. Represented and realized with natural materials like bronze, mixes of bonze and silver or copper: not as precious materials as usual jewellery artifacts but more raff materials to represent nature in its full expression.
Each jewel is beautifully touched by natural “inspirations” like palisade wood, pearls, amber or quartz. The shapes are interrupted by cracks, orange peel and plisses effects.
Materials leave space to reflection and meditation, while shape wraps around the concept. Monica’s sense of design comes from a deeply rooted tradition in design, her father Achille Castiglioni was one of the famous Italian furniture designers which contributed to writing history in Design. She breaths shapes and materials conceptualization all her life and since 1981 she started producing her own collection of jewellery until 1990 when she created the Anthias Jewellery Brand together with Natsuko Toyofuku.
Today she goes solo and produces her own line stocked all around the world: starting form Milan to New York and Tokyo her contemporary design is appreciated and warned by the most famous and fashionable people and also exhibited in places like the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Now finally in South Africa, Monica started a great collaboration with A+I: already stocking some of her father’s furniture pieces by Zanotta. What a better setting to exhibit her Jewellery Line then being surrounded by masterpieces of design form brands like De Padova, Cassina and Zanotta. Africa and its wild beauty is just the natural destination for something that was inspired by Mother Nature itself.
